Gonorrhoea is a bacterial infection that is sexually transmitted.  The majority of men with a gonorrhoea infection DO have symptoms, whereas half of women DON’T have symptoms.

Because gonorrhoea bacteria can live inside the cells of the cervix, urethra, rectum, throat and eyes, the infection can be passed on through vaginal, anal or oral sex, and sharing sex toys if they are not washed or covered with a condom each time they are used.  It is also possible for a pregnant woman to pass gonorrhoea on to her baby during childbirth.
